The Cincinnati Tenants Union (CTU) started as a small group of tenants and volunteers. We talked about the conditions in our buildings and discussed ways we could work together to improve them. Our goal is to better our living conditions by negotiating leases that improve the quality of our housing and protect our rights as tenants. Leases should guarantee healthy well-maintained apartments and fair rents. More than 75 CTU members have successfully negotiated legally-binding contracts with key improvements, including rent freezes, caps on rent increases, timely repairs, Union representation, and relocation rights.
CTU believes safe and affordable housing is a human right. By working together, we can secure that right. Tenants build power through collective action. Tenant unions win concessions that result in improvements to the conditions of our homes, reductions in fees and debts, and collectively-bargained, legally-enforceable leases as contracts.
